although i'm sure no one believes me, right now i really wish that i was in haiti helping people.
if i didn't have school, or a job, i would do anything i could to get there and do whatever is needed. i've read comments by people on news stories saying that instead of donating to haiti, we should help out our fellow americans who are unemployed. "we should help our own kind first." this seems to be a common feeling from some people. i haaate that way of thinking. i know that a lot of people are patriotic and loyal to their country. that's fine. but i think nationalism can be a very dangerous thing. (hello...hitler, anyone?) i subscribe to the school of thought that every person on this earth is equal. being american, in my opinion, makes you no better than someone who is haitian. or mexican. or middle eastern. etc. just because you were born in a privileged country does not make you better than those who are born in a country of poverty. the living conditions of the poorest americans does not even compare to the poverty of haiti. we're all brothers and sisters and we all have to help each other, love each other, care for each other.

C'mon people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
try to love one another right now
